There’s a little spot in Trayning where summer just feels easier — a toddler pool for the little ones, a 25m pool for proper laps, and big shady lawns where everyone ends up barefoot. With the playground, Caravan Park, and Sporting Club right next door, it’s the kind of place you wander into for a quick dip… and somehow stay all afternoon.

🪨 Can you help us identify this historic Wheatbelt 🪨 Can you help us identify this historic Wheatbelt location?

We have been contacted by Vera Bertola who has shared this fascinating old photograph of her great grandfather, taken around 1894 to 1895.

The photo is believed to have been taken while travelling from Perth to the Goldfields, possibly via Southern Cross, during the early gold rush years. The rock formation looks similar to some of our Wheatbelt granite outcrops and even has a hint of Billiburning Rock or Eaglestone Rock about it, but we are not convinced yet.

We are calling on the collective knowledge of our Wheatbelt Way community. Do you recognise this rock formation or have an idea where it might be?

Were there well known stopping points or camps along the early Goldfields route that this could match?

History lovers, local knowledge keepers and granite rock enthusiasts, this one is for you. Every clue might help Vera find out where this photo was taken.

Please comment below if you have a thought or feel free to tag someone who might know. Let’s see if the Wheatbelt can solve a 130 year old mystery.

Thank you for sharing your family history with us, Vera.
